“Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and LEGO® Star Wars™ building sets with this build-and-display set of 6 collectible LEGO BrickHeadz™ figures (40676). A cool anytime gift for Star Wars fans, it features brick-built LEGO figures of Jar Jar Binks, Anakin Skywalker, Queen Amidala, Captain Panaka, Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul, each with baseplates, plus authentic accessories such as young Anakin’s hammer and Darth Maul’s red double-bladed lightsaber.”

From Lego.com

The most noticeable feature of this set is the sheer number of BrickHeadz figures. The set boasts six! separate builds, each with their own instruction booklets and numbered bags. Both Jar Jar Binks and young Anakin Skywalker are build with one bag each, whereas Queen Amidala, Captain Panaka, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul have two bags each.

Splitting the build’s into their own bags and instructions makes this set great for building with a partner / friend / child. I personally split the builds, with my partner building, Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Maul myself.

I took it upon myself to look through all the past BrickHeadz releases and can confirm that, as of writing, this is the only BrickHeadz set to include more than five builds. Only seven other sets include more than three builds:

As is the case with nearly all new Lego builds, this set was a joy to build. Very straightforward clear instructions and bursting with the typical BrickHeadz charm. (I’m looking at you pink brick brains!). It might just be my type of humour but the highlighted instruction steps always make me chuckle.

Is it really worth the £49.99 / $54.99 / €54.99 price tag though?

Whilst there are some who might scoff at the thought of paying nearly fifty pounds on a BrickHeadz set – I believe the set does offer good value, not only on a price per piece basis but also when it come to displaying.

A price per piece of £0.07 is nothing to scoff at and comes in way below the Lego 2023 average of 10p – which includes non-licenced and generally cheaper sets!. Furthermore, the set contains no pesky stickers! Whilst we’re used to the printed BrickHeadz eyes by now, the set contains a plethora of new, exclusive, and beautifully printed tiles (see Darth Mauls forehead or Amidala’s dress piece). The use of metallic gold wedge and tile pieces for Captain Panaka’s helmet is also a welcome addition.

When it comes to displaying, each build is so unique that they’re instantly recognisable on the shelf. They fit well with the other Star Wars BrickHeadz (Mine stand proudly front and centre – next to my Commander Cody, Tusken Raider, and my 2022 Ahsoka Tano).

Ultimately I think the question of whether this set is worth it comes down to the age old Star Wars Prequel / Original / Sequel debate.

As someone born post millennium I fall squarely in the “Having grown-up with the Prequels” category, and whilst I thoroughly enjoy re-watching the Original trilogy, the Prequels will always have a special place in my heart. As such this conclusion is a no brainer for me. Coming in at £49.99 (that’s £8.33 per build) I think the set represents a great display piece for any Prequel fan. Admittedly you are paying the Star Wars ‘tax’ but that’s the case with all licenced sets.

At a price per piece of £0.07 with a swathe of fantastic printed pieces – Lego Star Wars The Phantom Menace 40676 is a set I’d recommend picking up before it’s discontinued at the end of 2024.
