Review of BrickHeadz 40547: Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader

Originally released back in August 2022, and with the set expected to retire this year, I decided to expand my humble BrickHeadz collection. BrickHeadz 174 Obi-Wan Kenobi and 175 Darth Vader join the mix!

For those unaware – LEGO BrickHeadz are typically smaller sets which a lower and more affordable price-tag. The BrickHeadz range mostly covers iconic characters from famous series. These range from Disney princesses, to Star Wars, to Transformers BrickHeadz.
Whilst the ‘blocky’ aesthetic isn’t for everyone, I feel that the LEGO BrickHeadz line is typically quite good at faithfully recreating their target. Such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and the infamous Darth Vader.

Although it isn’t immediately obvious 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi™ & Darth Vader™ actually came out as part of the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show releases. Despite this the set still works well if you haven’t seen the show as the characters (especially Darth Vader) are ubiquitous with Star Wars.

The £17.99 set comes with 260 pieces contained within four plastic bags. Bags 1 build Darth Vader (given away by the abundance of black bricks), and bags 2 build Obi-Wan Kenobi.

As is customary with BrickHeadz sets, there were two instruction booklets – making this a great set for building with a partner. Each build is quite similar in length and complexity, although Kenobi’s multiple shades of brown made him slightly more complicated to build.

Obi-Wan Kenobi features the classic black and white BrickHeadz eyes and sports a blue lightsaber.

Aside from the ‘BrickHeadz’ eyes Kenobi actually has no printed / sticker elements. The detail is crafted through clever design – like the upside-down slope bricks detailing the torso. All the elements work really well together, creating a recognizable Obi-Wan Kenobi.

My only gripe, is the 2×1 slopes used to represent his ears. Personally they seem a little big, perhaps 1×1 slopes would have been more fitting?

Really, for me, Darth Vader is the star of the show. He features several printed elements, admittedly recycled from 2018’s 41619 Darth Vader BrickHeadz.

I don’t mind the printed elements being reused as they still look great and provide a much needed pop of colour against Vader’s black armour.

Speaking of colour – Vader’s red visor has been recreated stunningly with two dark red sloped bricks. He also wields his iconic red lightsaber.

The pair display great together or alternatively you could showcase them separately. Obi-Wan Kenobi would make a great addition to 40676 The Phantom Menace BrickHeadz set; whilst Vader would fit right alongside The Emperor from the upcoming 40797 Revenge of the Sith™ Heroes & Villains set.

Overall 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi™ & Darth Vader™ is a good BrickHeadz set. If you like BrickHeadz and you like Star Wars, then you’ll like this set. I can understand it not being to everyone’s taste, especially with the lack of minifigures or play-features.

The price per piece of £0.07 seems about average for a BrickHeadz set and it’s nice to see that this being a licensed Star Wars set hasn’t inflated the price.
