Yes you read that right LEGO SpongeBob is returning to LEGO stores from 1st September 2026! It’s been over 10 years since The LEGO Group have released a SpongeBob set in the now retired SpongeBob Squarepants theme. Sadly this isn’t a return to the glory days of old – the new 11386 SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom set is releasing into the Icons theme.
It appears that SpongeBob is receiving the Simpsons treatment with a one off 18+ LEGO Icons release. (For those that don’t know LEGO released 10353 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger back in 2025). Not to be overshadowed, there is also a new SpongeBob BrickHeadz figure.
11386 SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom
Coming in at 1,794 pieces the set will cost fans £189.99 / $219.99 / €209,99. The set is clearly meant for the nostalgic collector, and is definitely geared towards display rather than play. However, SpongeBob and Squidward’s houses are constructed in ‘doll-house’ style with open backs so despite the 18+ age rating you could play with the set.
11386 SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom comes with fan favourite minifigures including SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, and DoodleBob. I believe this is actually the first time we’re seeing DoodleBob in minifigure form and he comes wielding his iconic pencil! Also included is an adorable brick-built Gary the snail.
I think the price will likely divide fans but it’s undoubtable a great looking set. I’m sure nostalgic fans that missed out on the original SponeBob wave will snap up the chance to own Bikini Bottom in LEGO form!
The set has a few moving elements like the spinning Jellyfish Fields. Patrick’s house is also able to open and close like in the show.
40858 SpongeBob SquarePants Figure
Also releasing 1st September is a new LEGO SpongeBob BrickHeadz figure. This small set is built from only 72 pieces. Like with most BrickHeadz the details come from the printed elements. Personally I think the figure doesn’t quite hit the mark – his head is too long. Although I do think the exposed studs give a nice sponge-like texture.
